Guide to wedding dress necklines

Wedding dresses come in lots of different necklines so in this post we are helping to explain some of the terminology of the most popular bridal necklines.

V-neck

The V-neck creates a V shape at the neck, usually with straps or sleeves to create the effect.

Strapless sweetheart

This is a universally flattering neckline that looks like the top half of a heart, usually with the curves coming to a point in the centre of the neckline.

Plunge

This is usually an extension of the V-neck or sweetheart, but with a more exaggerated and low cut plunge in the centre of the bust. They can be thin ‘skinny’ plunges or more open and deep plunges depending on the style. The illusion plunge panel can also be covered with lace if you prefer a less revealing look.

Off-the-shoulder

As the name suggests, this neckline extends below the shoulders so that the straps or sleeves sit just off-the-shoulder & onto the arm.

Square

A square neckline wedding dress is a modern and on-trend neckline that gives a cool girl look and effortless support onto the shoulders.

Boat

The boat neck extends from the top of the shoulder on either side & subtly curves around the neck so that it showcases your collarbones.

Illusion or High Neck

This is a higher neck style, but the higher part is usually a lace ‘illusion’ so it is semi sheer around the neckline and covered with lace or tulle.
